Hello Folks,
Welcome to Smashers NextGen 4.0 and the 2014 Northern DE USTA Summer League. We will be playing 12 matches this season. Please review the following information.

General info:(Most of you know this already..)
1. A few days before each match, I will send out a “Match Availability” survey with YES, NO and BACKUP as options. This is a timed survey i.e, no response = NO. Click on the appropriate link and your answer will be recorded. I will send out the match line-up a couple of days ahead of the match. If you have responded as “YES” and will not be able to keep the appointment for some reason, it is YOUR responsibility to find a replacement player for your spot and let me know about the replacement.
2. Each match will consist for 5 courts: 2 singles and 3 doubles. Hence, we need at least 8 players for each match to avoid a forfeit. Each court will play for the best of 3 sets. The team that wins 3 courts wins the match.
3.Each player should be present at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. If you are more than 15 mins late, we will have to forfeit that court!!
4. We will be playing about 12 matches. The top 4 teams in each flight advances to the play-offs.
5. Of the 12 matches that we are scheduled for, we are the “Home” team for 6 i.e, we provide the tennis balls. Each player listed on the line-up should bring a new can on USTA approved tennis balls. For doubles, you can figure out which can to use amongst yourself.
6. If a match needs to be rescheduled due to weather etc, I will reach out and inform the players scheduled for that match. Please make sure that I have your cell phone numbers listed in the team contact list.
7. Put amithnikam @ gmail.com and smasgersnextgen @ teamopolis.com on your “white” list so that you will not loose team communication. (Some ISPs may flag “teamopolis” as SPAM.)
8. Remember to turn your cell phones off or set to vibrate during a match. If your phone rings during a match you loose that point (league rules). If you need to keep your cell phone on for some reason (on call, anxious wife :-\ etc) let me know in advance, and I will negotiate with the opposing team captain.
9. We will need to balance the “need to win” with “out having fun”. Some teams are ULTRA competitive and may try to play “mind games”. Avoid conflict on the courts at all times and escalate to the captain (or substitute captain) immediately.
10 No coaching. For example, Players on one court cannot/should not coach players on other courts

Tennis is a very individual sport. However, in "Team Tennis", team work is at a premium compared to individual glory. Winning is our primary goal, but let's have fun doing it.
